Me and my dad rented some Kayaks here and the experience was really fun. The boats worked well and everything was nice. We had plenty of time to row out as far as our muscles would take us. Do not rent the open top Kayaks like we did. The water comes off the paddles and will soak your legs, which can be terrible. The lake also has great fishing resources, but the shop is pricey compared to a mainstream store.
There is a charge for parking. Many people park on the side of the road before entering the park. The park is a popular place with lots of people, many of whom go there for exercising - walking around the lake, paddling on the water, or hiking up into the hills and woods. Although the lake/park is close to dense population center, there is little/no cell phone signals which is an inconvenience.
Crowded on weekends. Lake has toxic algae. Boat rental is not well run.
Great breakfast burritos and chicken salad. Beautiful location.
Nice lake with plenty of boats for rent and helpful and knowledgeable staff to help if it's your first time fishing. The cafe is slow during peak lunch period and a bit overpriced for what you get but there are no other choices unless you bring a picnic lunch. Plenty of tables and grass to enjoy the scenery. We didn't hike but heard there are nice walking trails good for kids and adults.
